Through a mechanical art installation composed of different steels \u2013 including 2083 steel, 2343 steel and solutions for die casting steels such as 1.2344 \u2013 Steel Interlock highlights key properties such as polishability, photo-etching capability and corrosion resistance, which are essential factors in the selection of steel for plastic injection moulds.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/5&#8243;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;3\/5&#8243;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/5&#8243;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column]<div class=\"vcex-module vcex-divider vcex-divider-solid vcex-divider-center wpex-mx-auto wpex-block wpex-h-0 wpex-border-b wpex-border-solid wpex-border-main\" style=\"border-color:#ebebeb;\"><\/div>[\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=&#8221;A work of mechanical art&#8221; use_theme_fonts=&#8221;yes&#8221; css=&#8221;&#8221;][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;16px&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]Steel Interlock is a <strong>work of mechanical art<\/strong> designed to tell the story of <strong>plastic mould steels<\/strong> through the material itself.<br \/>\nA puzzle composed of <strong>six pieces made from six different steels<\/strong>, enclosed and held together by a <strong>frame made of a seventh steel<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Each piece retains its own metallurgical identity, but finds its meaning only within a shared structure:<br \/>\na system made of <strong>different materials, different requirements and different applications<\/strong>, all working together.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column]<div class=\"vcex-module vcex-divider vcex-divider-solid vcex-divider-center wpex-mx-auto wpex-block wpex-h-0 wpex-border-b wpex-border-solid wpex-border-main\" style=\"border-color:#ebebeb;\"><\/div>[\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=&#8221;Surfaces that speak of performance&#8221; use_theme_fonts=&#8221;yes&#8221; css=&#8221;&#8221;][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;16px&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]The puzzle pieces are <strong>mirror polished<\/strong>.<br \/>\nNot as a purely aesthetic exercise, but to clearly demonstrate the properties required of plastic mould steels:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>polishability<\/li>\n<li>surface quality<\/li>\n<li>suitability for photo-etching<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All of these characteristics are fundamental in the design of plastic moulds, where the appearance of the moulded part is often just as important as its function.<\/p>\n<p>The surface finishing process was carried out <strong>in collaboration with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.k-onesrl.it\/\">K-One Srl \u2013 Masters in Finishing<\/a><\/strong>, a leading company in the field of <strong>mould polishing and finishing<\/strong>.<br \/>Thanks to their experience and expertise, it was possible to fully enhance the potential of each steel, achieving extremely high surface finish levels consistent with real plastic mould applications.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column]<div class=\"vcex-module vcex-divider vcex-divider-solid vcex-divider-center wpex-mx-auto wpex-block wpex-h-0 wpex-border-b wpex-border-solid wpex-border-main\" style=\"border-color:#ebebeb;\"><\/div>[\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=&#8221;The seven steels of the Steel Puzzle&#8221; use_theme_fonts=&#8221;yes&#8221; css=&#8221;&#8221;][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;16px&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]The installation brings together seven plastic mould steels, selected to represent different combinations of wear resistance, polishability, photo-etching capability, corrosion resistance and machinability.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p><b>Formadur\u00ae 320<\/b><br \/>\nSupplied at a hardness of approximately <strong>320 HB<\/strong>, designed to ensure <strong>high wear resistance<\/strong> and long-term reliability. Suitable for injection moulds requiring <strong>robustness and production continuity<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><b>Formadur\u00ae PH42 Superclean<\/b><br \/>\nRemelted steel for plastic moulds, <strong>precipitation hardenable<\/strong>, supplied at approximately <strong>38\u201340 HRC<\/strong>. It stands out for its <strong>excellent polishability<\/strong> and high <strong>photo-etching capability<\/strong>, making it ideal for moulds with high aesthetic requirements.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><b>Formadur\u00ae 2316 Superclean<\/b><br \/>\nRemelted <strong>stainless steel<\/strong>, supplied quenched and tempered at approximately <strong>300 HB<\/strong>. It offers a balanced combination of <strong>corrosion resistance, machinability and surface quality<\/strong>, suitable for moulds used with sensitive plastic materials.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><b>Formadur\u00ae PHX Superclean<\/b><br \/>\nRemelted steel with high corrosion resistance, supplied at approximately <strong>40 HRC<\/strong>, with simplified weldability. Designed for complex moulds requiring high performance and ease of maintenance.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><b>Thermodur\u00ae 2343 Superclean (2343)<\/b><br \/>\nRemelted Cr\u2013Mo\u2013V alloy steel, characterised by an extremely fine structure and excellent polishability. Supplied in the annealed condition, it is ideal for moulds requiring precision and stability.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><b>Formadur\u00ae 2083 Superclean (2083)<\/b><br \/>\nRemelted stainless steel, corrosion resistant and offering good polishability.
