We conclude our Green Steel journey by analysing the founding document of this revolution: the White Paper by Swiss Steel Group.

The paper opens with an uncomfortable yet powerful truth: embodied energy is the “gorilla in the room”, the monster no one wants to see. Steel contains a huge share of this grey energy present in almost every product and service.

The White Paper’s thesis is clear: “If decarbonisation is not possible for steel, it is not possible anywhere”. Without action in the steel industry, stopping climate change is impossible. For this reason, the “Green Steel” project is not just a corporate plan, but a technology and innovation platform whose impact goes far beyond our sector.

The method adopted in the document can be summed up in three words: Recognize, Act, Inspire:

1. Recognize: scientifically measure the footprint (Big Data Project).
2. Act: implement technologies such as waste heat recovery (which is extremely valuable when used to replace fossil fuels).
3. Inspire: encourage customers and partners to do the same.
